Maggy Lou's is always full
Maggy Lou's just feels unbothered, relaxed and quietly confident in what it offers.
On the corner of St John's and Main Road in Sea Point is an all-day cafe called Maggy Lou's.
As far as we know, there's just this one cafe. And it's always packed with customers.
Why?
Well logically you can point to the great location, lovely food, friendly staff, interesting decor, killer sound track... all of these things contribute to the Maggy Lou's vibe. But mostly the place just feels unbothered, relaxed and quietly confident in what it offers.
The experience is what sells it.
Being there you never get the sense that management are trying to race to hit their monthly targets, there is no customer journey map, AI is not being used to optimise stock allocations.
It's just a cool cafe where people come together to enjoy nice things to eat and drink and the vibe.
It's smallness is its allure. The experience is its marketing.
Is Maggy Lou's a case study that gets offered at UCT's Graduate School of Business? Obviously not.
But it should be, because this is what sustainable modern commercial success looks and feels like.
Small, relaxed, confident.
