A free sticker with every purchase

Do you remember the Ron Jon Surf Shop stickers that only the cool kids had in the 80s?

Ron Jon Surf Shop stickers were all part of a brilliant strategy masterminded by its founder Ron DiMenna.

The shop itself originated in 1961 on the East Coast of the USA and the infamous stickers were given away with every purchase made from the shop.

Ron Jon (and brand) was 12000kms away from Cape Town, South Africa in 1983, but there wasn't a more dreamt about destination in many Southern Suburb classrooms at the time.

Copying the example of the Ron Jon Surf Shop, just about every other surf and skate brand since has printed branded stickers as a part of their promotional mix, but nothing quite came close of the cultural currency carried by the Ron Jon Surf Shop stickers.

They're committed in Tokyo, Japan.

We remember quite clearly cars in the 1980s driving around with stickers from local tourist destinations that the family had visited during their time of owning the vehicle.

Whatever this is...

Oudtshoorn Ostrich Farm stickers, Golden Gate National Park stickers, Addo Elephant park stickers etc etc. - the sticker collection told you a little bit about how committed the family were to their holidays.

The question is though - if you had to give away a free branded sticker with every purchase made, what do you think your customers would do with it?
