The 'event economy' holds even more potential for Cape Town
Is the city making enough of the opportunity our iconic events offer?
The way in which a massive metro like New York City sees their iconic marathon is quite different to how the City of Cape Town leverages the opportunity offered to it by the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon...and its other blue-ribbon events.
Wasted potential? For sure.
Opportunities for multiplier-led economic growth? 100%.
There's no taking away from the fact that the city has prioritised the development of water, electricity, transport and safety above all else, as a necessary foundational step, but forgoing a coordinated approach to maximise the return offered by our existing assets seems like a big miss.
