Flavor Flav as the US Women's Waterpolo team hype man

One aspect of the Olympics in Paris that has really stood out for us is the active involvement of two unlikely national team mascots that have been hard to miss.

Snoop Dogg and Flavor Flav have adopted this year's Olympic games in an unusual way and have brought with them the attention of American audiences that previously may well have overlooked sport as a viable career option.

Besides waterpolo - Mr Flav has taken a liking to the sport of fencing too.

Apparently Snoop Dogg is being paid a staggering amount of money to be Team USA official cheerleader, but frankly its money well spent. His presence has opened up the games to new audiences and has probably contributed to the securing of future Olympic talent that would not have engaged with the tournament had he not been involved.

That's right, right now rappers carry more social clout than politicians do.

The important thing to note here is that inspiring future generations to take up waterpolo, fencing, horse riding and all of the other amazing things that we all enjoy watching at the Olympics can only happen if the youth connect on a deeper level with the games and start to believe that taking part might also be for them.

Snoop Dogg and Flavor Flav are doing just that, which is great of the future of Team USA and a tactic worth copying by everyone else.
